Villa sulle Vigne

Near Jesi, Marche, Italy

Historic villa immersed among important vineyards,  sleeping up to 8 guests, with private pool (9x4m)

A traditional country redsidence set in a large garden of lawns and flowers shaded by mature trees, Villa sulle Vigne has been nicely restored and tastefully furnished.

Perched on a hill at the centre of a vineyard producing the noted Verdicchio wine for historic Marche winemaker Umani Ronchi, the property is immersed in the history of winemaking in Marche and still occasionally hosts wine tasting events (something that can be arranged for guests of the property at the Umani Ronchi distillery near Osimo).

The villa is located just 15 km from the spell-binding Frasassi Caves, a series of limestone underground caverns of international importance and the largest of their kind in Europe.

Also nearby are the Castelli di Jesi, a famous cluster of hilltop towns including Castelbellino, Monte Roberto, Maiolati Spontini and Cupramontana. The towns are rich in ancient architecture, churches, museums, castles, theatres and outstanding restaurants and trattorias, some within easy walking distance of the villa.

The beautiful Adriatic Coast is easily reached along the dual carriageway that passes a couple of kilometres away from the property, ideal for day trips to the sandy beaches north of Ancona such as those at Senigallia or the breathtaking Conero Riviera, with its sea cliffs and secluded coved beaches accessed by regular boat services.

The Conero area is also home to an important nature reserve of regional importance, which covers most of Monte Conero, a huge buttress of land rising nearly 2,000 ft from the beaches below and visible for scores of miles in every direction.

Mountain biking, walking and trekking and horse riding are all available within the park, providing ideal ways of enjoying the scenery and the wildlife in the area (roe deer, porcupines, red squirrels, wild boar, owls and falcons to name but a few).

Back at Villa sulle Vigne, the property has its own little dipping pool, complete with hydro-massage, perfect for a refreshing dip in the height of summer on return from a day out.

A short drive north is the important cultural centre of Urbino, home to an ancient university and a rich history which includes a number of renowned Italian artists. Even today the town is a Mecca for painters and many of the region's local artists are drawn to the town to live and work.

Some of the town's varied and wonderful architecture may at least in part explain the attraction. Indeed the town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, confirming its international importance as a cultural and historical beacon.

Architectural gems include the Palazzo Ducale, the most important and original building of its kind in Italy, and the object of numerous copies across the peninsula.

To the south is Macerata, home to an open air opera festival held every summer in July and August at the Sferisterio, an outdoor amphitheatre second in lyrical importance only to the Arena in Verona.
