This is a large and spacious restored countryhouse set in a location to match. Close to the beaches of Marche's northern fringes but set a few miles inland in the gentle hills between Senigallia and Ostra it offers tranquillity and beauty in equal measure.

The property is ideal for a family and for tennis lovers. What could be better than a game on the newly laid court followed by a refreshing plunge into the pool beside it.

The owner, Giancarlo, is a very proud gardener and the fruits of his labour are plain to see in the finely manicured and very private garden, with a wide range of interesting plants, beautiful lawns and neatly trimmed hedges.

The house is set in lovely countryside and from the bedrooms the views to Monte Conero and over the surrounding hills and fields are very special.

Nearby Senigallia is one of the most popular Adriatic seaside resorts and is a European Blue Flag holder famed for its "Velvet Beach." But it is also a town rich in history, thanks to its trading past. The old centre is of beguiling beauty and perhaps one of the most important  monuments is the old fort, the Rocca Roveresca, which was built in 1480. In the summer its courtyard echoes to the sound of classical music concerts.

Situated within easy drive of the borders with Tuscany, Umbria and Emilia-Romagna, Casa Il Buon Ritiro is an ideal place from which to explore Marche and central Italy, with Perugia, Bologna, Florence, Assisi, Siena and Rome all day-trip possibilities.

Yet there is also much to see and do closer to home. The provincial capital is the wonderful university town of Urbino, the birthplace of Raphael and the home of the Palazzo Ducale, an architectural masterpiece which houses Marche's most important museum, the Galleria nazionale delle Marche.

Thirty miles to the north is the independent state of San Marino, while to the south the beautiful coved beaches of the Monte Conero area are within half an hour's drive.
