Casa Giovanna
Near San Ginesio, Marche, Italy
Recently restored countryhouse, sleeping up to 8 guests, with swimming pool (10x5m)
This wonderful country house is divided into a three bedroom apartment located on the first floor of the main villa and a spacious and autonomous annexe next to the pool which sleeps a further two guests. Together they provide comfortable accommodation for eight guests.
Found close to the Sibillini Mountains and some of Marche's most stunning Apennine scenery, Casa Giovanna offers tranquillity and beauty in equal measure.
The views from the property's hilltop perch alone are stunning and will inevitably tempt guests to go and explore Marche's beautiful countryside and picturesque towns and villages.
The walled medieval town of San Ginesio, by comment consent one of Marche's most beautiful, is just 3km away and has a small but select group of bars, restaurants and shops. There is also a bank and a post office.
The larger town of Sarnano, famed for its curative spa and as a ski resort town in winter, is if anything even busier in the summer months, offering tourists a traditional Italian town of great beauty and practicality, with numerous restaurants, bars and shops as well as a thriving weekly market.
Close by are other pretty towns such as Amandola, Tolentino and Camerino. All are fascinating places to visit and experience some of Marche's unique history and architecture and taste its wines and prized cuisine.
Camerino is home to an ancient university and has been almost entirely restored since the earthquake of 1997. And nearby Caldarola is dominated by its renaissance castle, giving wonderful views over the town and countryside.
Situated close to the border with Umbria, Casa Giovanna is also an ideal place from which to explore Marche and central Italy in general, with Perugia, Bologna, Florence, Assisi, Siena and Rome all day-trip possibilities.
Yet there is also much to see and do closer to home. Southern Marche is also home to Ascoli Piceno with its unique marble piazza and to the north is the wonderful university town of Urbino, the birthplace of Raphael and the home of the Palazzo Ducale, an architectural masterpiece which houses Marche's most important museum, the Galleria nazionale delle Marche.
And with the Monti Sibillini National Park just 10 minutes drive away, nature lovers and walkers alike will undoubtedly want to spend much of their time in this truly spectacular wild place, which is home to a stable resident population of wolves and is also home to chamoix, golden eagle and eagle owls. There is even evidence of the return of the Marsicana brown bear from the adjoining national park to the south in Abruzzo and some evidence of the presence of the shy lynx.
