Villa Quattro Stagioni

Near San Ginesio, Marche, Italy

Impressive country villa, sleeping up to 12 guests, with large private swimming pool (18x9m)

Found in the beautiful province of Macerata close to the medieval hilltop village of San Ginesio and the spa town of Sarnano, Villa Quattro Stagioni is a perfect Italian getaway.

In the foothills of Marche's southern Apennine range with the Monti Sibillini National Park close by it offers good walking, the best in local traditional cuisine, beautiful surroundings and a friendly local population.

The property itself has been recently restored to a high standard, maintaining many traditional features such as the vaulted and beamed ceilings in the living toom.

The walled medieval town of San Ginesio, by comment consent one of Marche's most beautiful, is just 5km away and has a small but select group of bars, restaurants and shops. There is also a bank and a post office. Closer to hand, at about a kilometre, is another bar and restaurant.

The larger town of Sarnano, famed for its curative spa and as a ski resort town in winter, is if anything even busier in the summer months, offering tourists a traditional Italian town of great beauty and practicality, with numerous restaurants, bars and shops as well as a thriving weekly market.

Not far away are other pretty towns such as Amandola, Tolentino and Camerino. All are fascinating places to visit and experience some of Marche's unique history and architecture and taste its wines and prized cuisine.

Camerino is home to an ancient university and has been almost entirely restored since the earthquake of 1997. And nearby Caldarola is dominated by its renaissance castle, giving wonderful views over the town and countryside.

Situated very centrally the villa is also an ideal place from which to explore Italy in general, with Perugia, Bologna, Florence, Assisi, Siena and Rome all day-trip possibilities.

Yet there is also much to see and do closer to home. Southern Marche is also home to Ascoli Piceno with its unique marble piazza and to the north is the wonderful university town of Urbino, the birthplace of Raphael and the home of the Palazzo Ducale, an architectural masterpiece which houses Marche's most important museum, the Galleria nazionale delle Marche.

And with the Monti Sibillini National Park just 10 minutes drive away, nature lovers and walkers alike will undoubtedly want to spend much of their time in this truly spectacular wild place, which is home to a stable resident population of wolves and is also home to chamoix, golden eagle and eagle owls. There is even evidence of the return of the Marsicana brown bear from the adjoining national park to the south in Abruzzo and some evidence of the presence of the shy lynx.
