Near Amandola, Marche, Italy

Comprising four apartments, sleeping 5, 4, 2 and 2 guests respectively, with swimming pool shared with another property.

This is a nicely restored stone farmhouse surrounded by awesome views of Marche and the Sibillini Mountains in the heart of the Apennines, close to the Umbria-Marche border.

Each apartment is completely independent and all have access to a well kept private garden and swimming pool. The garden enjoys lovely views and includes a selection of organic fruit trees.

The property is within the Monti Sibillini National Park, a vast park covering nearly 2 million acres, making it the third biggest in Italy. There is a considerable variety of terrain and landscape. The area surrounding the house was until recently a forestry estate, and there are ancient woodlands all around.

There is wonderful walking, with footpaths marked and described on maps available in the information centres to be found in all the towns and villages in the park. There are also peaks with a truly alpine character, like Monte Bove, whose formidable north face offers climbing for mountaineers.

Photography and nature courses run by an eminent local guide and professional photographer are also available on request.

The house itself is close to Amandola, a town of 4,000 inhabitants with a beautifully porticoed main square. There you can sit outside one of the bars and enjoy an aperitivo before walking up to the town's highest point to take in the stunning views of Monti Sibillini and Vettore.

Sarnano is a wonderful summer retreat complete with its spa baths still used to treat medical ailments. It also provides a base to the many skiers that flock to the park in the winter months.

The Monti Sibillini National Park boasts some of the highest mountains in the Apennines, with Monte Vettore the highest in the park at 2,476m (8,124 ft) and many others including Sibilla and Priora (both well over 2,000m) which dominate the skyline for miles around.

Wildlife abounds, with a stable wolf population, deer, plenty of wild boar (often on the menu!), porcupines, hares, eagles, falcons and hawks all present in the park.
